A Nokesville woman lost her car and her freedom yesterday afternoon.

The trip to jail came after the woman nearly ran over a man who was trying to repossess her car, police said.

Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the disturbance took place about 4:30 p.m. at North Stafford Auto Sales at 3335 Jefferson Davis Highway.

Kennedy said the woman had gone there to discuss being behind in her payments.

The discussion apparently didn’t go very well. The woman came out of the office angry, and got angrier when she saw a man in the process of repossessing her vehicle.

The man, who’d been contracted by the business, told the woman she couldn’t leave in the car and let the air out of her tires to hinder her from taking it.

Kennedy said that after cursing loudly, the woman got into the car anyway and drove into the left leg of the victim, knocking him to the ground and nearly running over him.

Deputy Jason Hierwarter responded to the scene and, after sorting through conflicting stories, obtained a warrant charging 35-year-old Rebecca King with attempted malicious wounding.

Kennedy said King denied driving into the man, but a witness said that she did.

King was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
