CONYERS -- A man who said he wanted to get his Bible from his 2003 GMC Envoy before it was repossessed went to jail last week after he allegedly pointed a gun at the repo man
Zolly Brown, 61, of 1931 Smyrna Road, has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the Feb. 28 incident.
According to a report by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Brown told the responding deputy that he went out to talk to the repossession company worker because he wanted to get his Bible from his vehicle. Brown said he is a deacon in his church. Brown told the officer that the situation became heated, words were exchanged, and he went inside the house and got his gun -- a Smith & Wesson .357 magnum.
Brown told the deputy that he had removed the gun from its holster but never pointed the weapon at the repossession worker.
The 35-year-old repo worker, a Covington resident, told the deputy that he had been looking for the 2003 Envoy since November. He said he verified the VIN and then backed into Brown's driveway to hook up to the vehicle. The victim said he had already pulled the vehicle out of the carport and onto the road when Brown came out of the house.
The victim said he was outside of the fence and off Brown's property when Brown pointed the gun at him and threatened to blow off his head. The victim said he called 911, and Brown pointed the gun at him several more times before the deputy arrived.
Brown had apparently given the gun to his juvenile son to take back inside the house by the time the deputy arrived.
