West Manchester Township Police charged a York man Monday after they said he tried to run over a man who was repossessing his truck at a hotel parking lot. Patrick Anthony Riley, 45, faces charges of attempted aggravated assault and driving while his license was suspended or revoked.
Police said that about 10:45 p.m., a repo man -- who they did not name -- was preparing to tow Riley's pickup truck from the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel, 1415 Kenneth Road, when Riley came out of the hotel and got inside it.
Riley then put the truck in drive and despite the repo man's instructions to get out, accelerated, nearly hitting the man, police said. Riley sped off, but was arrested minutes later by York Area Regional Police at the Queensgate Shopping Center in York Township.
Following his arrest, Riley's truck was repossessed, police said.
Riley was released on $10,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Keith Albright is scheduled for June 26.

Man arrested after he tries to run over repo agents

A man in York is arrested and charged with attempted aggravated assault after two repossession agents try to take his truck.

According to the criminal complaint, West Manchester Township Police say it all happened around 1045 Wednesday night when 45-year-old Patrick Riley attempted to run over the man hired to repossess Riley's truck.

The repossession company, which is not identified in the complaint, located the truck at a Best Western in West Manchester Township.

Police say the repossession agents went to prepare the vehicle to take control of it when Riley came out of the hotel and jumped into the truck. Police say he then sped off nearly hitting one of the agents.

A short time later, Riley was apprehended and arrested by the York Township Police

We spoke with a repossession agent who was not involved in Wednesday's incident, but he said when it comes to the law you need to read the fine print on what you sign when you take out a loan.

“We are there to remove property that is not their property anymore,” repossession expert Nick stated. “They will say it's my car, but when it comes to a loan or a lien, it is their vehicle.”

According to police Riley did acknowledge that he used bad judgment. He said he was concerned about being stranded 700 miles from home without a vehicle.

These violence reports on repossessors are getting more and more each day. I read another a psot here where a member saying that he prevented violence by always acting professional. I am sure that does make you immune form violence.

The problem is people watch TV so they automatically think that that's how they are to act. The days where you got a thank you for coming to get it have came and went!
