UPPER DEERFIELD -- Two people apparently suffered minor injuries when their own vehicle struck them while it was being repossessed Wednesday night."It appears to be a misunderstanding," state police Capt. Al Della Fave said.

Sandra, 53, and Fred, 47, Werkheiser were taken to South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries following the incident at their home in the 500 block of Old Deerfield Pike at 9:25 p.m., Della Fave said.
Sandra Werkheiser declined comment Thursday night and said her attorney advised her not to talk about the incident. She would not provide the attorney's name.Della Fave said an agent from Elite Collateral Recovery Inc., in Elizabeth, was in the process of repossessing a vehicle owned by the Werkheisers.
"They thought it was being stolen," Della Fave said, adding he did not know what type of car had been repossessed.
No other information about the incident was available from state police at the Bridgeton station Thursday evening, and the investigating trooper only would say the investigation is still open, and charges had not yet been filed. The trooper declined to say whether he expects to file charges

    Reader's comments in the paper:

Say It Ain't So Benefit of a doubt since we don't know their circumstances. It's not a well to do area. Right in the vicinity of the Seabrook projects area. Maybe they lost their job, had some unforeseen expenses. But I agree if they stopped paying for no reason then oh well. It's on them.

Posted: Fri Apr 04, 2008 11:33 am WasteManagement123 They can't even pay their bills and are getting their car repossessed, but what do you want to bet they will some how have enough money to hire an attorney. We all know they are going to try and get paid out of this mess!

Posted: Fri Apr 04, 2008 10:48 am Say It Ain't So I still am wondering how it happened. It is embarressing to have their names in the paper though. I don't think the paper should have printed the names. They might have just fallen on hard times and got behind. The public doesn't need that information.
But the laws should change in that respect. No one should be allowed on private property after dark or in the early morning hours prowling around. Good way to get shot.

Posted: Fri Apr 04, 2008 9:14 am thetruthhurts Repossessers use tow trucks. How many car thieves use tow trucks. None. How could they think it was being stolen.

Where is their a law suit? Just because the repossession company hired by the bank was from Elizabeth does not mean a thing. Did you know this company has an office in Hammonton also? I guess you are one of those sue first ask questions later guys. I hope they were at least able to get their personal property out of the car such as umbrella, sneakers, and other personal effects.
